So today was all about travelling to Southampton, embarking and re-familiarising ourselves with Arcadia.
We travelled to Southampton by train – we’re wary of car travel in December – and all our arrangements worked well. We embarked Arcadia just before 2pm; indeed, as we embarked we heard the ‘cabins are ready’ announcement. So we dropped our bags off in the cabin; had fun getting some lunch in the Belvedere; explored the ship to see if we could spot the changes from the last refit; and went to the muster drill.
Then it was Sailaway time, for which we each had a free glass of fizz. It was very odd walking the Promenade and finding it deserted – normally (in summer) it’s full. After that we took our glasses of fizz up to the refurbished Crows Nest, and followed them with a couple of glasses of wine each. Now we’re back in the cabin trying to get ready for dinner, and having some difficulty staying upright – I blame the Channel.
One other thing – the Baggage Handling Company delivered the goods (or at least the bag). Our big bag was waiting for us.
